  • Contract Type: Temporary Contract for 12 months
  • Pay: 18.92 per hour (PAYE) / 25.03 per hour (Umbrella)
  • Location: Bernard Weatherill House
  • Working Arrangements: Hybrid - 2 days per week from home
  • Hours: Full time, 36 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Croydon Council is seeking a committed and compassionate CEYP Housing Support Worker to join their Staying Close (CEYP) Team within Children's Social Care. This is a vital role supporting care experienced young people to secure, sustain and thrive in safe and stable accommodation.

About the Role

You will provide bespoke, practical and emotional housing-related support to care experienced young people, working closely with Personal Advisors, Social Workers and partner agencies. The role focuses on empowering young people to move towards independent living and maintain sustained tenancies within the community.

You will support young people with a broad range of housing needs, including accessing accommodation, managing tenancies, budgeting, paying bills, dealing with arrears, and navigating challenging situations such as warnings or evictions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored housing support to care experienced young people, including bidding for properties, attending viewings and moving into temporary or permanent accommodation
    Motivate and empower young people towards independent living and tenancy sustainment
    Role model effective communication with landlords, housing providers and other agencies
    Support young people with budgeting, money management, rent arrears and bill payments
    Carry out home visits to support tenancy sustainment and community integration
    Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of all support activity and multi-agency work
    Work collaboratively with internal and external partners to advocate for young people with complex needs
    Contribute to team meetings, supervision and service development
    Act in accordance with safeguarding, data protection, confidentiality, equality and health & safety requirements

About You

You will have a strong understanding of the needs and vulnerabilities of care leavers and a compassionate, solution-focused approach to service delivery. You will be confident managing a caseload in a pressured environment and skilled at building effective partnerships.

Essential Knowledge and Experience
Knowledge of legislation relevant to care leavers
Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities for children, young people and vulnerable adults
Experience delivering frontline services to young people

Experience of case management, data management and meeting performance targets
Experience of problem-solving with customers and overcoming barriers

Essential Skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong negotiation, influencing and partnership-working skills
Ability to manage competing priorities and work flexibly
Confidence using IT systems and maintaining accurate records
A proactive, empathetic and problem-solving approach

An Enhanced DBS check with Children's Barred List required.
