Overview
We are seeking an Advisor - Radiological Protection to join our Safety & Regulatory Affairs team at Rolls‑Royce SMR. This role plays a critical part in supporting the evaluation of radiation protection impacts on the Rolls‑Royce SMR power station and the integrated Environment, Safety, Security and Safeguards (E3S) Case, specifically demonstrating an ALARP position. You will provide direct support to the Engineering function, ensuring awareness and justification for protection against radiation hazards.
Your expertise will influence design decisions, regulatory compliance, and innovative approaches to radiological safety.
- Provide expert input on radiological protection to Engineering and E3S Case teams.
- Engage with regulatory and licensing authorities to support SMR licensing internationally.
- Assess and manage compliance with radiological protection standards.
- Collaborate with industry to access best practices and operating experience.
- Explore innovative techniques to enhance radiological safety and design.

- Ability to deliver high‑quality radiation protection documentation within deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for internal and external representation.
- Solid understanding of Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 and nuclear safety practices.
- Knowledge of operational nuclear power plant activities.
- Experience engaging with diverse stakeholders on radiation protection requirements.
- Educated to NQF Level 6 (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) in a scientific or engineering discipline.
- Membership of a relevant professional institute.
- Salary: £40,000 - £52,500
- Benefit Allowance: £2,200
- Bonus Opportunity: 12.5% on target
- Life Assurance: 6x pensionable salary
- Income Protection: 50%
