The Shift Leader will be a certifying engineer who leads and manages the day to day operational activities to ensure the safe and efficient operation of their responsible shift. They will be required to take on administrative and managerial duties including workload management and booking control, production planning and will be responsible for supervising and managing staff on shift.
Accountabilities (Team Leadership)- Maintain awareness of company Health & Safety policy and ensure staff practice approved methods to minimise risk to personnel or equipment.
- Encourage a safety culture among shift members and advise the Station Manager of any potential hazards or improvements.
- Promote a safety conscious culture and encourage reporting.
- Mentor and assist staff development, actively involved with onboarding new starters (Company and Customer procedures).
- Effectively manage, develop and motivate the team, carrying out staff appraisals.
- Encourage a strong work ethic and staff interaction across shift personnel, leading by example.
- Manage all shift activities and responsibilities ensuring efficient use of manpower while ensuring activities contribute to the continued airworthiness of the based aircraft with expedient clear up of defects.
- Assess all work requests and requirements with particular attention to tooling, manpower and downtime.
- Manage and maintain a safe and efficient line maintenance operation.
- Ensure shift levels and skills sufficient to achieve planned workload in line with Production Planning Process and bring discrepancies to the attention of Engineering Management.
- Maintain a good relationship between all line stations and interfacing departments.
- Assist the Customer Airline achieving its on-time performance targets.
- Ensure all responsible staff are aware of their responsibilities and updates to relevant procedures.
- Maintain the line station in a clean, safe and efficient manner during their period of duty.
- Aid in ensuring all relevant Station, EASA and CAA regulations are met.
- Ensure relevant procedures are followed, maintained and reviewed for compliance with all regulations.
- Ensure all relevant directions, procedures and directives are followed and correctly read and recorded.
- Identify and report all cost savings or potential overspends to the Station Manager.
- Notify the Station Manager of all overtime requirements, preferably in advance for approval.
- Assess all H & S issues and bring them to the Station Manager.
- Ensure all staff on shift are aware of all H & S obligations and responsibilities.
- Review roster 14 days in advance to ensure staffing levels and skills adequate to fulfil shift requirements.
- Arrange backfill and overtime as required according to guidelines directed by the Station Manager.
- Ensure production planning complete for current and oncoming shift.
- Review daily the Customer work requests, ensure spares identified/received and placed on Pre-load.
- Maintain a good relationship with all line stations and interfacing departments.
- Assist Customer Airlines on-time performance record.
- Regularly brief staff on their responsibilities and updates.
- Maintain line station cleanliness and safety (vehicles clean, bins emptied at end of each shift).
- A recognised apprenticeship within the aircraft industry or similar.
- Qualified Part 66 Licence for types relevant to station with a minimum of 3 certifying years experience.
