Youth Violence Support Worker

Location:

Emergency Department, Luton & Dunstable Hospital

About the Role
You'll support young people admitted to hospital due to violence-related injuries.

Your role starts in A&E and continues after discharge, helping them access long-term support and avoid re-victimisation. You'll work closely with hospital staff, clinicians, and community services.

Key Responsibilities
 
Identify and assess young victims of violence in hospital
Provide emotional and practical support during admission and after discharge
Create support and risk management plans
Work with agencies like police, youth offending teams, and social services
Help with housing, appointments, education/training, and court support
Keep accurate case notes and contribute to project monitoring
Promote positive lifestyle changes
Occasionally support other St Giles projects  What They're Looking For
 
Experience working with vulnerable or high-risk young people
Lived experience of the criminal justice system or similar challenges (encouraged to apply)
Ability to work flexibly, including weekends and across sites
Strong communication and advocacy skills
Experience in multi-agency working and safeguarding
Ability to engage with challenging individuals and assess risk
Relevant qualification in social care, youth work, or advice work (or working towards one)
Knowledge of issues like youth violence, exploitation, trauma, and social exclusion
Understanding of diversity, inclusion, and anti-discriminatory practice  Additional Requirements
