For our client, an independent investment manager based in Lausanne area, we are seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to strengthen its team.
Purpose of the RoleThe Senior Legal Counsel willbe responsible for legal and regulatory issues arising in connection with the company’s business activities, business partners and professional counter parties, in close collaboration with the Head of Legal and Compliance. The legal counsel will be able to assist and act as a backup for the Head of Legal and Compliance in all matters.
Key Responsibilities Legal & Regulatory Advisory- Provide expert legal advice on all matters related to the company’s business activities, business partners, and professional counter parties.
- Stay up to date on relevant Swiss and, as needed, EU regulatory developments affecting the industry.
- Contribute to regulatory watch efforts, ensuring the company remains compliant with Swiss and EU financial regulations.
- Collaborate closely with the Compliance team, supporting regulatory analyses and interpretation of applicable financial regulations.
- Act as the designated back-up to the Head of Legal & Compliance, with the motivation to develop a solid working knowledge of compliance functions relevant to a regulated asset manager and the ability to coordinate with subject-matter experts as needed.
- Draft, review, and negotiate legal agreements, including those related to alternative investments, hedge funds, and strategic investments.
- Review NDAs and other commercial agreements and occasionally provide oversight or guidance to legal colleagues on these matters.
- Participate in the ongoing development of internal contract templates and contribute to the team’s document retention practices.
- Work closely with operations and investment teams to streamline legal documentation processes.
- Assist in cross-functional projects with compliance and legal teams.
- Utilize technology-driven solutions to enhance legal and regulatory processes.
- Prepare clear, professional presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint for internal and external stakeholders.
- Confidently engage with executives, business partners, and regulatory authorities.
- Swiss-qualified lawyer with a minimum of 7 years’ experience in a legal role within a regulated financial environment (Swiss or EU laws).
- Strong background in financial markets, financial instruments, and investment structures.
- Excellent contract negotiation and drafting skills.
- Agile mindset, able to prioritize tasks independently, and a fast learner.
- Keen to deepen exposure to the regulatory environment and contribute meaningfully to cross-functional legal and compliance initiatives over time.
- Excellent written and spoken English (primary working language); additional languages a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Supportive of digital transformation efforts and willing to work with new technologies to enhance legal and regulatory processes.
- Experience working with cloud-based technologies is a plus.
- High alignment with company values.
