Location:
Maidstone — Office Based (with some travel to project sites)
An established building services contractor is seeking a Mechanical Estimator to join its growing Projects/Contracts team. This position is responsible for producing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for mechanical installation and construction projects, ensuring submissions are competitive, compliant, and aligned with project specifications.
Key Responsibilities
* Review and interpret project drawings, technical specifications, and related documentation to develop precise cost estimates.
* Assess material, labour, and equipment needs to determine overall project costs.
* Prepare detailed tender submissions, estimates, and supporting documentation within required time frames.
* Contribute to the preparation and submission of PQQs and ITTs.
* Liaise with engineers, clients, contractors, and suppliers to fully understand project requirements and scope.
* Identify potential commercial, technical, or operational risks and propose suitable mitigation strategies.
* Maintain organised and up-to-date records of all estimating work, ensuring information reflects current market conditions and pricing.
* Undertake supplier and manufacturer negotiations to secure competitive pricing for materials and equipment.
* Keep current with industry trends, new technologies, and evolving costs to ensure estimates remain accurate and competitive.
Skills & Experience Required
* Minimum of 2 years’ experience in estimating or a related role within the mechanical or building services sector.
* Strong understanding of mechanical systems and engineering principles.
* Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
* Competent in the use of CRM or estimating-related software.
* A relevant higher-level qualification or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
* High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and strong organisational abilities.
* Ability to prioritise workloads and meet strict deadlines.
* CAD experience or qualifications are advantageous.
* Familiarity with Sim Pro is beneficial
