Chief Accountant

We are seeking a certified, hands-on accounting professional with demonstrated experience supporting SMEs across accounting, bookkeeping, tax, and regulatory compliance.

• Shape the design of Daira's accounting product
• Manage key SME accounts and own their end-to-end financial workflows
• Ensure our platform remains aligned with local accounting, tax, and regulatory frameworks in GCC

You will play a critical role at the intersection of finance, product, and client success.

• Oversee preparation and maintenance of SME clients' financial records, including general ledger, COA, and month-end closing
• Standardize and improve workflows for invoicing, payables/receivables, payroll, and expense tracking
• Lead the design of accounting templates and internal standards for bookkeeping, reconciliations, and MIS reporting within the platform

• Prepare financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cashflow) compliant with IFRS for SMEs and local GAAP
• Maintain audit-ready financial data and ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements
• Advise SMEs on cash flow, working capital, and cost optimization using sector-specific insights

• Ensure compliance with GCC tax regimes: VAT, corporate tax, ESR, UBO, payroll and labor-related obligations
• Build tax and compliance checklists/modules to embed into SME workflows
• Collaborate with the tech team to automate statutory and tax compliance processes

• Provide domain expertise for product design, including controls, validations, reporting logic, and UI/UX flows
• Conduct end-to-end testing of accounting features, identify improvements, and work with developers to refine logic
• Support structuring the SME onboarding process and defining service SLAs

• Act as Key Account Manager for a defined portfolio of SME clients
• Serve as the primary point of contact to resolve accounting, compliance, and workflow issues
• Proactively identify opportunities to enhance client experience and strengthen Daira's value proposition
• Elevate key client insights and strategic opportunities to Daira's leadership team
• Identify and engage with new potential customers to sell Daira's suite of services

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Professional certification preferred: CPA / ACCA / CMA
• 10 years of experience in SME accounting, bookkeeping, and tax compliance in the UAE/GCC
• Strong knowledge of:
  • Accounting standards such as GAAP/IFRS for SMEs
  • VAT, corporate tax
  • Payroll rules, and record-keeping regulatory requirements
  • Full understanding of LMRA and SIO regulatory requirements for SMEs in Bahrain
  • Accounting systems such as Odoo, Zoho Books, Quick Books, Xero, Tally, or similar
• Experience designing or improving accounting workflows within digital or automated platforms (strong plus – highly preferred)
• Native Arabic proficiency (including accounting terminology)
