Head of Business Development – Geotechnical and Environmental Consultancy About the Company
We’re supporting a well-established group of geotechnical and environmental consultancies in their search for a Head of Business Development. This senior position is based within their main consultancy but will also work closely with several specialist businesses in the division. The group has a strong presence across the UK and Ireland, delivering services to clients in residential, commercial, infrastructure, utilities, and public sectors.
The RoleWe are seeking a seasoned, target-driven Head of Business Development to spearhead growth across our consultancy services. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of business development and delivery in geotechnical or geo-environmental consultancy, with the ability to generate and convert pipelines while fostering strong client relationships.
Key Responsibilities- Drive business development initiatives, identify new opportunities, and secure strategic partnerships.
- Build strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and industry leaders.
- Collaborate across consultancies to leverage collective capabilities and ensure cross‑selling opportunities.
- Mentor and develop commercial teams, instilling a culture of excellence and collaboration.
- Lead go‑to‑market strategies and embed best practice sales management processes.
- Oversee sales forecasting, pipeline management, and reporting.
- Attend industry events and networking opportunities to develop leads and track ROI.
The successful candidate will:
- Have a demonstrable record in winning and delivering geotechnical / geo-environmental consultancy work.
- Be commercially astute, technically proficient in at least one core service (Geotechnical, Geoenvironmental, Temporary Works Design, Ground Investigation, or Digital Imagery Analysis).
- Possess strong influencing, negotiation, and client engagement skills.
- Be experienced in forecasting, CRM use, and rigorous pipeline management.
- Understand contract negotiation, commercial frameworks, and risk allocation.
- Be confident presenting in diverse settings, from client pitches to senior leadership reviews.
- Strategic communication and relationship-building.
- Leadership of cross-functional teams.
- Commercially focused with strong attention to detail.
