Structural Engineering Director – Specialist Teams Lead

Job Description

We are looking for a highly skilled Structural Engineer to lead our newly created Specialist Teams within the UK Building Structures Team. You will support the growth of technically challenging projects across Defence, Government and other sectors, providing leadership to seismic and advanced engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and line management to specialist seismic and advanced engineering teams (currently 5 engineers)
  • Plan and manage the growth of specialist teams
  • Develop teams to support business growth, especially in Defence and Government sectors
  • Accountable for technical and commercial performance, reporting to UK Structures Leadership team
  • Increase Ramboll’s technical capability and reputation in specialist fields
  • Link specialist teams with project delivery teams
  • Act as client liaison to explain complex work
  • Develop client business relationships through trust and technical excellence
  • Represent Ramboll in external client meetings
  • Manage day‑to‑day team activities (commercial and technical)
  • Develop and agree structural concepts, design philosophies and conduct inception and peer reviews
  • Take ownership as structural or design lead on complex specialist projects
Essential Qualifications
  • Degree in structural or civil engineering
  • Chartered with IStruct

    E, ICE or equivalent
  • Demonstrable experience at Associate Structural Engineer level or above
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with ability to simplify technical concepts
  • Strong interpersonal skills and diverse outlook
  • UK Government Security Clearance eligibility
Technical Competencies
  • Leading technically complex projects
  • Managing projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Technical leadership of specialist structural engineers
  • Structural seismic analysis and detailing to international and local codes (European, American, New Zealand, etc.)
  • Seismic assessment and retrofit of existing structures
  • Dynamic and non‑linear analysis
  • Blast analysis and design
  • Knowledge of design codes, industry standards, performance‑based design approaches for safety‑critical industries
  • Proficiency in structural engineering software and specialist finite‑element software (ETABS, CSI SAFE, ANSYS, DIANA, etc.)
  • Approach engineering problems from first principles when methods are unavailable
  • Desirable programming experience (Python, JavaScript)
