Electrical Design Engineer

Azenta Life Sciences is looking for an Electrical Design Engineer based in Irlam, Manchester. The role focuses on electrical design and product development, working closely with customers, and involves international travel.

• Design electrical hardware and low voltage circuits and produce Electrical Requirement and Development Specifications from concept through release.
• Select and specify sensors, motors, PCBs and wiring harnesses.
• Collaborate with mechanical design, production and supply chain to introduce new products and product variations.
• Develop and maintain electrical panel schematics, control systems and systems schematics for large equipment.
• Contribute to total system engineering.
• Be involved in all phases of design and development from initial concept to manufacturing.
• Conduct experimental tests on equipment and evaluate results.
• Review vendors’ capabilities to support development.
• Depending on the level, function as a project engineer, preparing proposals and technical presentations and resolving cross‑functional issues.
• Keep up to date with technical advances in the discipline and related fields.

• BSc in Electrical, Electronic or Control Systems Engineering or equivalent.
• Significant experience in a related field, preferably Life Science sector.
• Knowledge of CE Machinery Safety, EMC Compliance, UL Safety Standards.
• Experience with programmable safety PLCs complying with the latest machinery regulations.
• Electrical and control systems design for environment control applications (e.g., refrigeration).
• Experience in CAN distributed control networks.
• Preferred:
  Experience in PCB schematic/layout using Altium Designer, ORCAD or similar.
• Familiarity with PLM systems (e.g., Oracle/Agile).
• Experience with in a controls product development background and/or PLC design is desirable.
• Good working knowledge of Solid Works/AutoCAD or other electrical design CAD systems.
