We are looking for a Civil Engineering (Ground Engineering) apprentice to join our Manchester office. You will work towards achieving a Level 6 qualification at the University of Salford.
About The OpportunityGround engineering focuses on the behaviour of soils and rocks beneath our feet, combining civil engineering with geology. As a ground engineer you will work on projects such as tunnels, bridges, highways, railways, dams, airports and natural hazard mitigation. You will assist in delivering geotechnical designs, producing technical drawings, supporting construction and ground investigation site work, and learning specialist software and design standards.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in geotechnical design and calculations for multi‑disciplinary projects.
- Produce technical drawings and support construction and ground investigation activities.
- Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to deliver high quality work.
- Work under the guidance of a dedicated mentor to develop technical and professional skills.
- A minimum of 120 UCAS tariff points or equivalent.
- A keen interest in ground engineering.
- Strong communication and team‑working skills.
- A flexible and proactive self‑starter with a passion for learning new skills.
- The ability to adapt and prioritise while juggling work and study commitments.
- Enthusiasm and curiosity to apply skills to solve real‑world problems.
- Empathy and listening skills to understand client requirements.
- A well‑rounded individual with diverse experiences (e.g., sports, volunteering, or other extracurricular activities).
- Permanent right to work in the UK.
As part of our Early Careers Programme you will gain a structured approach to continuous professional development, technical, behavioural and business skills, mentorship, networking opportunities, and the chance to develop a bachelor’s degree (BEng) and professional registration as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) through a civil engineering degree apprenticeship.
