Recruiting across the Built Environment for Buro Happold in the UK

Buro Happold is recruiting for an Electrical Engineer to join our Building Environments team in our Manchester office. This role is suited to a candidate from a Buildings background looking for an opportunity to pursue industry leading designs within a vibrant multi-disciplinary practice.

What sort of projects could I work on?

Our Manchester Building Services (MEP) team is involved in a wide variety of challenging and exciting projects. Current projects include:

  • Wrexham AFC Kop Stand Redevelopment, Wrexham – Redevelopment of the STōK Cae Ras stadium with a new 5,500 stand housing the players and media facilities, general admissions and high quality hospitality.
  • MMU All Saints Library, Manchester – Creation of a new world class library and teaching building located in the heart of the All Saints campus in central Manchester.
  • Sister Manchester Plot C, Manchester – The first new build development on the Sister Manchester site, comprising 500,000 ft² high quality commercial office space alongside community use spaces.

The team continues to deliver cutting edge design solutions that encourage efficient use of materials, energy and natural resources. Our holistic, multidisciplinary design environment affords our engineers the freedom and creativity to push the boundaries of sustainable building technology across HVAC, Electrical and Plumbing disciplines in close collaboration with specialist groups such as sustainability & physics, facades, lighting, and technology.

Key Duties
  • Undertake detailed electrical engineering building services design and calculations, using Revit and Amtech software.
  • Embrace technologies to improve performance and sustainability to meet net‑zero targets by 2030.
  • Ensure projects are carried out to an excellent standard, within agreed deadlines and budget.
  • Produce reports, presentations, models, and drawings to an excellent standard, high level of accuracy and in a timely manner.
  • Prepare technical schedules, design development reports and innovative design solutions.
  • Plan and manage input to Revit for production of design work.
  • Actively engage with colleagues across disciplines.
Your Skills & Experience
  • Relevant building services experience or credentials that help us deliver highly sustainable buildings.
  • Experience as an Electrical Engineer on projects.
  • Broad design knowledge, from working on a wide range of projects and using British, US and European codes of practice.
  • Experience using common analysis software including Revit, Amtech and IES and willingness to quickly learn new analysis packages as required.
  • Digital engineering skills (e.g. coding) would be advantageous.
  • Working towards, or a Chartered Member of IET, CIBSE or equivalent body.
  • A Bachelor’s degree BEng/BSc or Master’s degree MEng/MSc in a relevant discipline.
