This is largely a project-based role to support the development, coordination and successful delivery of the Trust’s Medicines Optimisation and Pharmacy Strategy by supporting the Trust value improvement programme, development of a Trust medicines formulary and supporting the Trust Drug & Therapeutics Committee (DTC) processes. You will be part of the Medicines Optimisation Team, working with internal pharmacy teams, collaborative partners, and other stakeholders to optimise medicines across the patient pathway from commissioning to distribution.

Under the leadership of the Principal Pharmacist Medicines Optimisation you will help ensure patients receive medicines in the most efficient and cost-effective manner, contributing to improved health outcomes and value for money.

Main duties
  • Support the development, review and maintenance of the Trust medicines formulary and treatment guidelines to facilitate the safe, effective and cost-effective use of medicines within the Trust.
  • Work closely with disease group pharmacists to identify medicines information/optimisation requirements to support medicines optimisation activities.
  • Identify, scope and implement Value Improvement Programme (VIP) opportunities relating to medicines expenditure, and provide monthly reporting on VIP activity.
  • Develop expertise in reporting and analysis of prescribing trends across EPMA and dispensing/procurement systems to optimise medicines usage.
  • Interpret data and be able to explain prescribing, financial and quality data to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide professional secretarial support to the Trust Drugs & Therapeutics Committee (DTC), advising on agendas, papers, minutes and actions.
Qualifications and attributes
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated Pharmacy Technician with an interest in medicines optimisation.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders, including in-house pharmacy teams, outsourced pharmacy services, and external partners.
  • Analytical skills to interpret prescribing, financial and quality data and communicate results clearly.
  • Experience with medicines information/optimisation activities and supporting committee processes is desirable.
