Healthcare Support Worker – Prison Environment

Are you a caring and compassionate Healthcare Support Worker? Would you like the opportunity to develop your skills in a community setting? You could be a key part of our multi‑disciplined healthcare team, providing individualised care for our patients in a prison environment.

Our services include reception screening, providing agreed care packages, undertaking appropriate physical health observations, clinics such as Phlebotomy, ECG, NHS health checks, and health promotion.

Responsibilities
  • Work under the delegated authority of a Registered Nurse and complement the Multi‑Disciplinary healthcare services.
  • Provide high standards of individualised, non‑judgmental care for patients.
  • Support operational delivery of Prison Healthcare across Primary Care, Mental Health and Substance Misuse services.
  • Attend to patients from reception of prisoners into the prison through to discharge through the gate.
  • Perform reception screening, deliver agreed care packages and conduct physical health observations.
  • Carry out clinical duties, including Phlebotomy and ECG clinics and NHS health checks.
  • Promote health to improve patients’ mental, physical and social needs.
  • Work as part of the emergency response team when required.
  • Support patients showing low‑level mental ill‑health and withdrawal from illicit substances in accordance with agreed care plans.
Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant health or social care discipline.
  • Good level of care experience and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work as a team player under the supervision of a qualified nurse or practitioner.
