STA Legal is part of the STA group of companies and leading provider of end-to-end credit management and international dispute resolution services, supporting UK and international businesses across the full credit lifecycle. With over 30 years of experience, we act for a diverse client base from owner‑managed businesses to listed corporates, delivering commercial dispute resolution, recoveries, and strategic litigation support across multiple jurisdictions through a global partner network and our Glasgow contact centre.

Accredited to ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 and authorised by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and Financial Conduct Authority, STA Group operates to rigorous governance, data security and compliance standards.

Role Description

This is a full-time role for a Litigation Solicitor, based at our Manchester office. The role forms part of STA International’s 2026 growth plan, including expansion of our contentious practice into higher‑value, multi‑party and cross‑border disputes arising from national and international trade, transport, and supply chain relationships, backed by several new office openings across UK cities.

You will manage and support a mixed caseload including commercial and civil litigation, insolvency‑related disputes and recovery actions, and arbitration matters (including case preparation and conduct through hearing). The work includes urgent and time‑sensitive disputes, contractual and payment claims, enforcement and insolvency strategy, and advisory support to clients operating across complex supply chains and regulated environments.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to trial and hearing readiness across the team, including assisting with and undertaking trial preparation (including pleadings, evidence, disclosure, schedules, bundles, and witness preparation), and attending hearings as required. You will collaborate with internal operations, credit and dispute teams, liaise with counsel and external stakeholders, and provide clear, commercially grounded advice to ensure effective resolution while maintaining high professional and compliance standards.

Real estate litigation experience is not essential; however, the firm undertakes real estate disputes work and exposure to such matters will be regarded as beneficial.

Key Responsibilities
  • Managing and progressing a caseload of commercial and civil disputes, including cross‑border trade, transport and supply chain claims.
  • Conducting and supporting arbitration matters, including procedural steps, evidence preparation, and hearing readiness.
  • Advising on and conducting insolvency‑related litigation and recovery strategy (including statutory demands, winding‑up/bankruptcy pathways where appropriate, and associated contested applications).
  • Drafting, reviewing and settling pleadings and other court/tribunal documents, including applications and supporting evidence.
  • Trial and hearing preparation, including disclosure management, witness evidence, schedules, trial bundles, and liaison with counsel.
  • Representing clients at hearings where appropriate to experience and rights of audience.
  • Undertaking legal research and producing clear written advice and internal reports.
  • Maintaining high standards of file management, compliance, and data security in line with SRA/ISO requirements and internal governance.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Qualified solicitor in England and Wales with a current practising certificate.
  • Any PQE level will be considered, provided the candidate has been involved in assisting with and/or undertaking trial preparation.
  • Proven experience in commercial litigation and civil litigation; experience of trade, transport, logistics, supply chain or international disputes is strongly preferred.
  • Exposure to insolvency litigation, enforcement, or insolvency‑linked recovery strategies is advantageous.
  • Arbitration experience is advantageous (including case preparation and procedural management).
  • Real estate litigation exposure is helpful but not essential.
Skills and Competencies
  • Strong drafting skills and attention to detail across pleadings, evidence, and advisory work.
  • Sound procedural knowledge and ability to run matters efficiently to deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and research capability to support strategy in complex disputes.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management, including with clients, counsel, counter parties, and internal teams.
  • High professional integrity and commitment to compliance, confidentiality, and robust governance standards.
  • Familiarity with Clio, Legl, Legal Automation and A.I. applications is also helpful.
