Electrical & Instrumentation Technician at Northwood
We are seeking a skilled Electrical & Instrumentation Technician or Engineer to join our well-established tissue paper manufacturing facility. This role is critical in implementing condition‑based maintenance programs to maximise the reliability and efficiency of our machinery and processes.
Shift pattern: 4 on / 4 off (7 repetitions) followed by an 18‑day break, consisting of 2 days and 2 nights per rotation.
About the Role- Perform electrical maintenance on plant equipment (motors, drives, control panels).
- Use electrical and instrumentation expertise for fault‑finding and rectification on Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
- Plan, schedule, and perform Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPMs) to minimise downtime.
- Assist with basic mechanical tasks such as replacing belts, bearings, and seals.
- Collaborate with the on‑site Mechanical team responsible for major mechanical elements (MIG/TIG welding).

- Electrical qualification (HNC/NVQ Level 3 + or equivalent) with strong instrumentation knowledge (preferably apprenticeship training).
- Experience interrogating PLCs for fault‑finding and basic condition monitoring.
- Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Experience with AC & DC variable‑speed drives.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and instrumentation diagrams.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to assist with mechanical repairs occasionally.
- Problem‑solving skills; remains calm under pressure in a fast‑paced environment.
- Solid understanding of Health & Safety standards and safe working practices.
