Role Description

The Assistant Warehouse Manager will support the Warehouse Manager in the day‑to‑day running of the warehouse, acting as the first point of contact on the shop floor. The role requires essential leadership presence, ensuring fast response to operational issues, promoting strong communication, and helping maintain a safe, efficient, and well‑organised warehouse environment.

The role requires a driven people‑centric individual with a can‑do attitude, strong problem‑solving skills, and the ability to adapt to constantly changing demands and challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the first point of contact for shop‑floor staff, responding quickly to queries, issues, and daily challenges.
  • Support the Warehouse Manager in coordinating daily operations, including goods‑in, storage, picking, packing, and dispatch.
  • Maintain real‑time awareness of warehouse activity, addressing problems proactively to minimise disruption.
  • Supervise and support the outbound and inbound team, ensuring accurate and timely movement of product to ensure service levels are consistently met.
  • Assist the warehouse manager by running daily performance and capacity reports.
  • Escalate any issues appropriately while taking ownership of immediate on‑the‑ground resolutions.
  • Provide clear instructions and support to warehouse staff, helping maintain productivity and workflow.
  • Support adherence to food safety, hygiene, health & safety, and warehouse standards.
  • Ensure proper implementation of stock rotation, temperature controls, allergen procedures, and traceability requirements.
  • Promote a clean, tidy, and organised warehouse environment at all times.
  • Support the good practice of health & safety standards and ensure all activities are compliant with company policy and legislation.
  • Liaise with planning, customer service, supply chain and production to ensure customer shortages and lates are resolved and acted upon in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining accurate stock levels through regular stock takes and resolving stock discrepancies.
  • Support the Warehouse Manager in investigating stock discrepancies and implementing corrective actions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and streamline warehouse processes.
  • Support the implementation of new procedures, training, or system improvements.
  • Coach, train and develop the Warehouse team, identifying potential future growth within the team.
  • Step up to deputise the Warehouse Manager.
The ideal candidate

The ideal candidate must have:

  • Previous experience within a FMCG environment (previous experience within dairy or cheese manufacturing environment is desirable).
  • Experience in a warehouse supervisory or assistant management role.
  • Experience with SAP (beneficial)
  • Forklift truck licence and experience (beneficial)
  • Proficient in Office 365
  • Good understanding of warehouse systems, stock processes, health & safety, and food safety requirements

Working Hours
  • 40 hours per week Monday to Friday
  • Site based
  • Shift cover expected
