Construction Technician - Civil Engineering
We currently have an opening for a Construction Technician - Civil Engineering, servicing projects in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) and Greater Niagara Area. This is a permanent full-time position. You will join the dynamic Water Division, working on multi-discipline design and construction projects for a variety of public and private sector clients. The role provides opportunities for advancement and career growth.
You will collaborate with teams in our Ontario offices and provide on-site representation and construction services for multi-discipline construction projects in the water and wastewater sector.

- Overseeing the construction of various engineering projects.
- Prepare construction specifications, cost and material estimates, project schedules and reports.
- Engage in daily contract administration duties as well as site inspection duties to monitor contractor progress, workmanship, and conformance with contract documents.
- Assist in developing engineering specifications and drawings.
- Assist in the bidding process of projects.
- Communicate regularly via progress reports with Associated Engineering, clients and contractor project teams.
- Serve as Associated Engineering’s representative in communications with the public and other stakeholders during the construction contract.
- Collaborate with your team and other disciplines and offices in a dynamic work environment.
- Comply with and work within COR-certified environment and perform duties in accordance with the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and applicable legislation.

- Diploma in Construction Engineering Technology / Construction Management or equivalent field from an accredited college (an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering is an asset).
- 5+ years of progressive construction experience, including at least 1 year in water/wastewater treatment facilities.
- Experience with contract administration and on-site inspection principles, with at least 1 year in lump-sum contracts.
- Familiarity with local building/construction codes.
- Knowledge of construction contract interpretation and the Ontario Construction Act.
- Experience coordinating activities on a construction project, including liaising with Client, Contractors, Approvals Officers and the Public as required.
- Experience with preparing contract administration documents (agendas, minutes, daily logs, photo records, RFIs, testing reports, change orders, deficiency lists, construction certificates).
- Experience with project scheduling software for assessing progress against tendered schedules.
- Experience with bidding/tendering processes.
- Inspection and conformance of construction works with contract documents and engineering design.
- Experience interpreting specifications, plans, and regulations.
- Experience preparing engineering sketches, technical specifications, quantity take-offs, and cost estimation.
- Experience with start-up and commissioning of mechanical systems, and post-construction warranty services as part of a commissioning team.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations for Construction Projects.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Primavera, or Microsoft Project schedule software.
- Demonstrated leadership and collaborative teamwork abilities.
- Strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle for company purposes.
- Registration with OACETT (as a Certified Engineering Technician or Technologist) is an asset.
