Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Electrical Engineer with expertise in designing single and three-phase oil-filled distribution transformers up to 3

MVA - 34.5KV and power transformers up to 15

MVA - 69kV. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing transformers to meet CSA/IEEE or customer technical specifications, while maintaining cost-effectiveness and timeliness. Additionally, the role involves working with various transformer cores and windings, managing a database of conductor and insulating materials, and optimizing existing products in collaboration with the engineering team.

Responsibilities

Design oil-filled distribution and power transformers on time and at cost, adhering to technical specifications.

Create designs for different types of transformer cores and windings, such as wound core or stacked core.

Maintain a working database of conductor and insulating materials.

Collaborate with the Engineering team to analyze and optimize existing products.

Prepare a list of engineering deliverables and time-based functions for planning and budget control.

Maintain project scope documentation and revisions during design evolution.

Review and execute electrical and layout design criteria documents.

Review electrical technical deliverables, including specifications, datasheets, and drawings.

Assist in the preparation and development of project-specific procedures.

Define system requirements to achieve project results and monitor their effectiveness.

Represent the electrical practice in project engineering coordination meetings.

Participate in electrical design reviews and transformer testing, both routine and special tests.

Ensure compliance with relevant sections of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) in all electrical engineering work.

Essential Skills

Proficiency in electrical design, particularly in transformers, single-phase and three-phase systems.

Familiarity with codes and standards such as CSA, ANSI, IEEE, or IEC.

Experience with high-voltage transformers and protection systems.

Strong engineering calculation skills.

Knowledge of oil-filled distribution and OPS.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Professional Engineering ( certification.

Experience with OPS.

Work Environment

The position is based in an office environment with working hours from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The work environment is described as positive, friendly, flexible, and supportive, with a strong emphasis on teamwork and innovation. The company is moving to new office and factory spaces by the end of Q4 2025 and Q2 2026, reflecting its focus on growth and expansion.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Markham, ON.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.
