Job Summary

Reporting to the Supervisor/Coordinator of Facility Operations, this position is responsible for assisting with facility operations maintenance, cleaning and repair work. The role also ensures the security and safety of the facility and its patrons when no other full‑time staff are available.

Hours and Location

Part‑time (up to 24 hours a week) contract opportunity until June 2026. Hours vary by shift, mostly weeknights and weekends.
Location: Markham Civic Centre, 101 Town Centre Boulevard.

Key Duties And Responsibilities
  • Performs general cleaning and maintenance (detail cleaning, set‑ups and breakdowns of tables and chairs, minor repairs, painting, outdoor lake and fountains maintenance).
  • Operates power tools, cleaning and safety equipment.
  • Responds to requests from the general public and other City staff on facility issues and/or maintenance requests.
  • Patrols the facility, assesses and mitigates facility problems, safety hazards and improper departmental operations.
  • Ensures policy and procedures are followed according to City of Markham standards.
  • Provides excellent customer service and works well with other staff.
  • Performs various administrative duties as required, logs issues through the ACR work order program or contact centre.
Required Skills & Competencies
  • Minimum 18 years of age at the start of employment.
  • High School Diploma and demonstrated experience in a leadership role at the high school level or beyond.
  • Two years’ experience in part‑time facility maintenance and familiarity with maintenance procedures.
  • Familiar with all aspects of the building so that questions can be handled, problems resolved, and complaints responded to promptly and courteously.
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR “C” with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).
  • Valid Class ‘G’ Ontario driver’s licence (no demerit points and no more than two infractions – maximum one moving and one non‑moving conviction).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, etc.) and work order reporting software/log issues.
  • General knowledge of e‑mail, video conferencing (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.).
  • Ability to perform general maintenance skills safely.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and customer service skills and sensitivity to interact with diverse groups.
