The Registered Practical Nurse provides professional nursing care to residents according to medical care requirements and nursing standards. They also provide direction to Personal Support Workers as defined by the College of Nurses Standard of Practice, working with unregulated health care workers.

• Implement Age Care policies and procedures on the unit in collaboration with the Registered Nurse. Contribute to policy revisions.
• Liaise with physicians and other healthcare team members, including external partners. Notify physicians of significant resident status changes in the absence of the RN.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to meet residents’ care needs.
• Guide Personal Support Workers on the care team.
• Participate in shift reports to ensure all team members are informed of resident updates.

• Knowledge of geriatric, rehabilitation, or long-term care nursing, including activation, nursing, and personnel administration.
• Understanding of relevant legislation such as the Fixing Long-Term Care Act and Regulations, Health Disciplines Act, and others.
• A current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario and good standing membership.
