Overview
Infant Feeding Advisor role at NHS Borders. Permanent - 18.5hrs, Band 6.
Location:
Borders region, United Kingdom.
This is a role within Women & Children’s Services, to support infant feeding within inpatient maternity wards at Borders General Hospital and follow-up support in the community at specialist clinics and home visits.
Responsibilities- Promote, protect, and support breastfeeding in line with Baby Friendly practice standards across NHS Borders Women and Children’s Services.
- Provide tailored individual support and information to women choosing how to feed their baby.
- Work with the Infant Feeding Lead, maternity/neonatal staff in inpatient wards, and Health Visitors in the community to support infant feeding.
- Manage own workload and work on initiatives to improve breastfeeding attrition rates and reduce hospital re-admission for feeding challenges.
- Contribute to the Infant Feeding Team activities and participate in related education and training.
- Minimum required: NMC registered nurse/midwife with a minimum of 2 years’ experience, including experience supporting mums and babies with infant feeding. Evidence of clinical competence in infant feeding (UNICEF breastfeeding and relationship building or equivalent).
- Desirable: experience of UNICEF UK BFI audit, staff education with appropriate qualification (Train the trainer course).
- The successful candidate will be supported by the Infant Feeding Lead and maternity/neonatal staff within inpatient wards and Health Visitors in the community.
- Candidates should have a proven track record of supporting women with infant feeding and demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative and manage workload effectively.
