Overview
NHS Borders Outpatient Department currently delivers a phlebotomy service provision to the Acute wards and Outpatient Clinics within the Borders General Hospital. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Phlebotomist (Band
2) to join our established Nursing team. You would be responsible for delivering unsupervised safe and effective care in the acute ward setting and the out-patient department. The successful candidate will work closely, supporting the patient journey within the acute ward setting and delivering provision in the outpatient clinics. If you are flexible, resourceful, have excellent verbal/written communication skills and aspire to deliver exceptional standards of care we would be very interested in hearing from you.
- Deliver unsupervised safe and effective phlebotomy care in the acute ward setting and outpatient department.
- Support the patient journey within the acute ward setting and provide phlebotomy services in outpatient clinics.
- Work flexibly as part of the Nursing team to deliver high standards of care.
- Flexibility, resourcefulness and excellent verbal/written communication skills.
- Aspire to deliver exceptional standards of care.
- Previous phlebotomy experience is desirable (if applicable).

As from 1st April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro-rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check. If the post is assessed as a "regulated role", your appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. If there is any change to what is currently required, this will be confirmed by the Hiring Manager or Recruitment Team.
