Recycling Operative

Role Overview

We are seeking a motivated and reliable Reuse & Waste Recycling Operative to join the team at Melton Recycling & Household Waste Site (RHWS). The successful candidate will support the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible operation of the site, assisting members of the public, managing materials for recycling and reuse, and maintaining high standards of site cleanliness and safety.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide excellent customer service to site users, offering guidance on correct waste disposal and recycling practices.

* Assist in the reuse operation, identifying and sorting items suitable for resale or repurposing.

* Ensure waste materials are correctly segregated into appropriate containers and bays.

* Maintain site cleanliness, safety, and tidiness at all times.

* Monitor waste levels and communicate with team leaders regarding container changes or issues.

* Adhere to all site safety procedures, PPE requirements, and operational policies.

* Support site operations at other nearby facilities when required.

* Assist with traffic management on site during busy periods.

* Report hazards, incidents, or unsafe behaviours promptly.

Skills & Experience

* Previous experience in waste management, recycling operations, or a manual/outdoor role is desirable but not essential.

* Strong communication skills and a helpful, customer-focused attitude.

* Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

* Physically fit and able to handle manual tasks.

* Reliable, punctual, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.

Additional Information

* Weekend working is required as part of the regular rota.

* Rest days are fixed on Thursdays and Fridays.

* Hours currently follow winter shift pattern (9:00am – 4:00pm), subject to seasonal change.

* Flexibility to travel to and work at alternative local RHWS sites is essential
