Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Multi-skilled Project Engineer (Permanent)
Talent STEM have been retained by a COMAH regulated manufacturing business in Cheshire to appoint a multi-skilled Project Engineer for a hands on, site based project delivery role.

This position is suited to an engineer who enjoys being on site, close to the plant and actively involved in the day to day execution of projects. You will take ownership of delivery from concept through to commissioning, working directly with contractors, operations and EHS teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and compliantly.

The role

You will lead and support multidisciplinary engineering projects across process improvements, capacity enhancement, compliance works and infrastructure upgrades. Projects are delivered in live operational environments and require strong practical engineering judgement alongside structured project management.

Key responsibilities include:

- Taking ownership of projects on site, coordinating activities and resolving issues in real time

- Managing EPC and EPCM projects across mechanical, electrical, chemical process and civil disciplines

- Developing and controlling project scope, schedules, budgets and resources

- Working side by side with contractors during construction, installation and commissioning

- Leading risk assessments and ensuring safety and compliance are embedded in delivery

- Driving stage gate governance without losing focus on practical execution

- Supporting commissioning, handover and safe integration into operations

- Maintaining accurate, high quality project documentation

This is a true boots on the ground role, not a desk based project coordination position.

About you

You will be an experienced Project Engineer who is comfortable operating in a COMAH or high hazard environment and confident making decisions on site. You enjoy being visible on the plant, engaging with trades, contractors and operators and taking accountability for outcomes.

Key requirements:

- At least 5 years’ experience delivering engineering projects in COMAH or high hazard sites

- Degree qualified in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics or Chemical Engineering

- Broad working knowledge across mechanical, electrical, chemical process and civil engineering disciplines, with the ability to coordinate and challenge design and site activities

- Strong practical project delivery skills across planning, cost control and risk management

- Good working knowledge of process safety and hazard studies such as HAZOP, LOPA and ALARP

- Experience working directly with contractors in live operational environments

- Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership is advantageous

Why apply

This is an opportunity to join a technically complex manufacturing site in Cheshire where projects are visible, meaningful and safety critical. The role offers real ownership, autonomy on site and the chance to see your work through from concept to completion.
