Lead Golang Software Engineer, Commercial Systems  The role of Lead Golang Software Engineer at Canonical focuses on designing, developing, and operating key services that power the Commercial Systems unit. Canonical is a leading provider of open‑source software and operating systems, with Ubuntu as its flagship platform used by public cloud providers, data‑science teams, AI initiatives, and IoT solutions worldwide. The Commercial Systems unit consists of six engineering teams that collaborate closely with other business and engineering groups.
Teams you’ll work with
Billing team : builds a scalable Golang service to turn metrics into billable amounts, provide real‑time spend visibility, and ensure accurate, reliable billing.
Contracts team : develops a single source of truth for all customer contracts, offering CPQ capabilities and structured storage of signed agreements.
Livepatch team : creates a service that delivers Linux kernel patches in production, reducing the window for critical vulnerabilities.
Location :
Remote – EMEA region.
Role responsibilities   Develop engineering solutions using Golang.
Lead technical design, code reviews, and implementation.
Deploy and operate services produced by the team.
Coach, mentor, and provide career‑development feedback to colleagues.
Advocate and evangelise best engineering and organizational practices.
Qualifications   Exceptional academic track record (high school and university).
Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling narrative of an alternative path.
Consistent record of exceeding expectations to achieve outstanding results.

Experience with Golang software development.
Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills.
Result‑oriented and driven to meet commitments.
Willingness to travel internationally twice a year for company events up to two weeks long.
Nice‑to‑have Skills   Performance engineering and security experience.
Experience in accounting, sales, or related business roles.
