Job Title: Supply Chain Lead (Direct Procurement)
Location: Milton Keynes — Hybrid (2–3 days in the office per week)
About the Organisation:
A rapidly growing, cutting‑edge engineering business developing next‑generation propulsion and power systems. The organisation is scaling quickly, with major technical programmes underway and an increasing need for a robust, high‑performing supply chain. You will be joining a highly capable team working on innovative, complex hardware, where speed, precision and collaboration are essential.
Role Overview:
We are seeking a highly capable Supply Chain Lead to build and lead the Direct Procurement function during a critical phase of expansion. This is a hands‑on, delivery‑driven role suited to someone who thrives in dynamic environments, takes ownership, and brings structure and clarity to fast‑moving engineering operations.
You will develop the supplier base, improve delivery performance, and ensure the business receives parts on time and to the right quality — while shaping the future supply chain strategy and processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a portfolio of suppliers across both tactical and strategic categories.
- Establish supplier frameworks, KPIs and long‑term agreements.
- Build and rationalise a high‑performing supply base, including dual‑sourcing and risk management.
Operational Delivery:
- Expedite and track deliveries, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of part status.
- Communicate clearly with internal teams and support build and production activities.
- Oversee all transactional procurement activity to ensure smooth operational flow.
Commercial & Strategic Contribution:
- Negotiate contracts that deliver value in cost, quality and lead time.
- Identify cost‑saving and value‑creation opportunities.
- Act as a commercial voice within the organisation, influencing decision‑making.
Process & Continuous Improvement:
- Introduce lightweight, scalable procurement processes suitable for a fast‑paced technical environment.
- Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Help develop simple, effective procurement tools and practices as the business grows.
Core Competencies & Behaviours:
- Bias for Action — moves quickly, makes progress with imperfect data, prioritises effectively.
- Extreme Ownership — drives issues to closure and owns outcomes fully.
- Calm Under Pressure — maintains clarity during rapid design changes and supplier challenges.
- Diplomatic & Emotionally Intelligent — works constructively with engineers, production teams and suppliers.
- Technically Curious — comfortable with BoMs, drawings and manufacturing processes.
- Structured in Chaos — brings clarity and process without unnecessary overhead.
- Assertive When Needed — confident challenging poor performance or unrealistic expectations.
- Hands‑On Leadership — leads by doing, dives into detail and removes blockers personally.
Qualifications &
Experience:
- Proven procurement experience in engineering, aerospace, motor sport, technology or a fast‑paced scale‑up.
- Strong commercial and negotiation capability.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and understand manufacturing processes.
- Comfortable working autonomously.
- Full UK driving licence.
