Reporting to the Entertainment Technical Manager, the Entertainment Technician will support the Entertainment Technical team in delivering the technical needs of the entertainment program on board to the highest industry standards. The Entertainment Technical team consists of 3 Senior Technicians (Sound and Lighting Engineers and Stage Manager), a Broadcast Manager and 5 Entertainment Technicians, and is part of the Entertainment department onboard, which also includes a team of Entertainment Hosts, Production Cast Members, a Children’s Host Team, as well as a Musical Director and team of Resident Musicians.
The department is directed and coordinated by the Cruise Director.
As a member of the Entertainment Technical team, you will set up live bands, musicians and technical equipment in the various ship venues. Depending on the vessel, you may operate the sound and lighting equipment in one specific venue or ship‑wide across multiple venues and lounges. You will also assist with running production shows in the main theatre, aiding the Stage Manager backstage, building and striking stage scenery, and on some vessels operating Follow Spot for production shows.
You will hold responsibilities for emergency procedures, guest mustering and drills, and you must act safely, responsibly and professionally onboard.
- Deliver the technical requirements of entertainment products to an exceptionally high standard.
- Set up sound and lighting systems as directed, coordinating with other team members to ensure a complete and seamless production of events onboard.
- Set up and maintain stage scenery, equipment and props for all performances as directed.
- Create and enhance the guest experience onboard, ensuring all events are delivered at the highest technical standard possible.
- Ensure events start on time and all technical requirements from musicians, performers and entertainment hosts are met.
- Follow the Entertainment Technical Manager’s instructions and work schedules, ensuring all work is carried out safely, efficiently and in accordance with all current safety and company regulations.
- Complete accurate maintenance and equipment records and comply with the cleaning and maintenance schedule for the department.
- Assist with the technical maintenance, repair and upkeep of all equipment onboard as directed by the Entertainment Technical Manager.
- Maintain the highest technical standards and professional behaviour while representing RWS Global and Marella Cruises.
- Maintain appearance and grooming guidelines at all times.
- Upkeep training standards and standards set out in training.
- Hold responsibility for emergency procedures, guest mustering and drills (full training received on board).
The Entertainment Technician should have at least 2 years of relevant industry qualifications in sound, lighting, stage management or equivalent/relevant work experience.
