Test Technician – Rolling Stock

We are currently recruiting experienced Test Technicians to support rolling stock testing and commissioning activities within a safety-critical depot environment. This role is expected to start in February and offers competitive shift rates across early, late and night shifts.

Shift Patterns & Rates Early / Afternoon Shifts

06:00–14:00 / 14:00–22:00
Early finish on Fridays
£36.63 per hour Night Shifts

22:00–06:00 (Monday–Thursday)
16:00–21:00 (Friday)
£40.63 per hour

Role Overview This is a skilled, safety-critical role requiring a high level of technical competence. You will be responsible for carrying out functional testing and commissioning of EMU/DMU and other rolling stock types following maintenance, modification or production activities. The role demands strong fault-finding capability, the ability to work from written instructions, and the confidence to work independently where required.

Key Responsibilities
Carry out functional testing and commissioning of rolling stock to defined standards
Lead fault identification and rectification using recognised fault-finding techniques
Read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematic drawings
Investigate rolling stock faults with minimal supervision
Download, analyse and process train diagnostic data
Test a wide range of onboard systems
Produce detailed technical reports relating to fault investigation and test results
Maintain accurate test documentation, fault logs and test sheets
Liaise with production and engineering teams as required
Work within high-voltage and safety-critical environments
Support off-site depot activities when required
Deputise for the Test Team Leader when necessary
Carry out other reasonable tasks as directed

Essential Requirements
Time-served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (or higher) in a relevant discipline
Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding capability
Detailed knowledge of railway vehicle systems and components
Proven experience working in a safety-critical environment
Ability to fault find complex circuits and systems to an advanced level
Competent in producing technical and analytical reports
Computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Strong understanding of 5S principles
High awareness of safety and quality requirement
