With 40 years of operational experience and proven performance on the iconic Canadarm programs including Space Shuttle and International Space Station robotics and operations support, our Robotics & Space Operations team has 100% mission success in making space dreams come true.

We have combined complex robotics with control software to develop mission critical robotic systems such as the Mobile Servicing System (MSS) for the International Space Station (ISS) and, previously, the robotic arms for the Space Shuttle. The MSS serves a vital role in keeping the ISS operational through continuous robotic operations to maintain and repair the space station, enable resupply missions and support a host of daily ISS operations.

Today, MDA is developing sophisticated systems for new projects such as an artificial intelligence-enabled robotic system known as Gateway External Robotics System (GERS) - to assemble and maintain a lunar staging outpost orbiting the moon enabling future exploration missions, human lunar landings, missions to explore Mars and on-orbit servicing of satellites.

As our Mission Operations Engineer or Member of Technical Staff (MTS), you will have the opportunity to undertake a variety of exciting and diverse set of engineering challenges on our International Space Station program.

The Position
:

We’re on the hunt for a Mission Operations Engineer or Member of Technical Staff (MTS) on our Robotics & Space Operations team at our St. Hubert (
on-site at the Canadian Space Agency), Quebec office. In this role, the candidate will be part of the Engineering Support Lead group that provides real-time engineering support during operations of the Canada’s robotic systems known as the Mobile Servicing System (MSS) onboard the International Space Station (ISS). In this exciting role, you will have a direct impact in supporting and enabling the success of human spaceflight exploration.

Duties would include some or all of the following:

  • Provide systems engineering support to real-time robotic operations of space station assembly and maintenance missions involving Canadarm2 and Dextre
  • Troubleshoot system behaviour anomalies –both on-orbit or on-ground systems; determine root cause, and the appropriate technical resolution
  • Flight following of on-orbit operational tasks to maintain situational awareness for providing timely response to requests from ISS Mission Control teams
  • Monitoring MSS performance and identifying deviations in the MSS system performances
  • Performing desktop reviews of flight procedures from a systems engineering perspective and provide comments to the Operations Engineering Centre Lead
  • Acting as a subject matter expert on MSS elements and participate in system level technical discussions with our customer (the Canadian Space Agency) and NASA
  • Support training of astronauts and flight controllers as a Subject Matter Expert
  • Utilize and/or develop augmented/virtual reality (AR/VR) applications for our zero-g robotics lab (DREAMR Lab) to emulate on-orbit performance of robots to plan and troubleshoot on-orbit operations as well as help in rapid prototype design of robotic systems and operations techniques
  • QUALIFICATIONS:

Interested candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, Engineering…
