The nurse in this position will provide healthcare services to individuals with mental illness and/or co-occurring substance use disorders by conducting assessments and delivering appropriate nursing interventions. The role includes working alongside a provider one day per week, totaling four days per month in White River and Mission, SD. A vehicle supplied by SPBHS may be taken from the Winner office to the outlying offices in Mission and White River.
Responsibilities include checking in patients prior to their appointment with the provider, carrying out physician-directed orders, and providing follow‑up care to ensure that patients’ healthcare needs are fully addressed.
- Provide nursing care to clients in office or community setting.
- Administer prescribed medication and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
- Record pertinent medical or behavioral data.
- Complete special reports and forms.
- Secure and maintain paperwork for medication programs for clients as appropriate.
- Provide basic medical care, determine if physician care is needed, and make arrangements for obtaining care.
- Assess physical needs of clients and observe clients for illness and injury.
- Follow orders given by a physician to ensure patient healthcare needs are met.
- Answer questions of staff regarding behavior of clients.
- Monitor clients’ physical condition.
- Provide medication administration training and certification to staff as assigned.
- Explain and describe medications and treatments to clients and staff.
- Assist physician with clinic and telepsychiatry.
- Maintain, store, and secure medications.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Maintain regular contact with physician for consultations and other staff to exchange patient information, work with lab and medical aide personnel to order tests for patient care, pharmacy to discuss prescriptions, and communicate with patients’ family as necessary.
