AECOM's Environment team is actively seeking Senior Environmental Planners with experience in delivering energy projects (e.g. Hydro One Networks Inc., Enbridge, renewables, etc.), as well as other Class Environmental Assessments (EAs) and Individual EAs. Experience is required in developing and executing engagement and consultation programs, coordinating environmental specialists, as well as identifying and assessing environmental features, constraints, alternatives, potential effects, mitigation measures and avoidance opportunities.
The candidate must be skilled at providing advice regarding environmental aspects, applicable legislation and guidelines, and policies, as well as documenting the project process. We are seeking highly motivated and accountable candidates that work collaboratively with other team members and are effective communicators. Organizational skills and an ability to work well on multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment are essential qualities.
This position is for a newly created position.
Responsibilities:
As part of our team, the successful applicant will lead environmental management work and deliverables throughout a project life cycle, including:
· Developing and executing engagement and consultation programs, including project notices, Public Information Centres (virtual and/or in-person), with Indigenous communities, regulatory agencies, members of the public and other project stakeholders with a view of advancing resolutions.
· Liaising with local, Provincial, and Federal agencies regarding permits and approvals.
· Tracking of consultation with Rights holders and other stakeholders.
· Coordinating environmental specialists (i.e., fisheries, terrestrial, noise, air, archaeology, etc.).
· Collaborating with technical and professional staff across the company in completing assignments.
· Conduct site visits and monitor environmental aspects of study areas and infrastructure.
· Identifying and assessing environmental features, constraints, alternatives, potential environmental effects, mitigation measures and avoidance opportunities.
· Providing advice regarding environmental aspects, applicable legislation and guidelines, and policies.
· Researching, conceptualizing, planning, and writing reports/documentation related to planning, design and permitting. Be familiar with Environmental Due Diligence Reports, Environmental Protection Plans/Requirements Documents, Contractor Environmental Management Plans, and other permitting and monitoring documents in support of new, expanded, refurbished electrical infrastructure projects (lines and stations).
· Coordinating, preparing for, attending and documenting project meetings.
· Liaising with clients by phone, email, writing and in-person.
· Supporting business development efforts, including proposal writing and participation in industry associations.
· Participation and contribution to AECOM’s Technical Practice Groups.
· Full project management and/or participating in study administration through developing and tracking environmental work plans and schedules, and budgeting. Full project management includes:
o Developing project objectives, scopes and costs.
o Ensuring that projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget. Developing a project plan to track progress, as well as managing changes in project scope, schedules and costs.
o Coordinating internal resources and third parties/vendors to ensure resource availability and allocation.
o Measuring project performance using appropriate systems, tools and techniques.
o Managing relationships with clients and stakeholders.
o Performing risk management to minimize project risks.
o Creating and maintaining project documentation.
QualificationsMinimum Requirements:
· 6+ years of experience,
· Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Management/Planning, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Urban and Regional Planning or related field.
· Excellent communication skills with proven success in engaging design managers, discipline leads and contractors and negotiating with regulatory agencies to secure project approvals.
· Class G driver’s license.
