Job Description
AECOM Mississauga is seeking a Senior Rail Bridge Engineer to provide owner’s advisory services for rail bridge structure projects from conceptual design through substantial completion.
This role offers the opportunity to serve as a technical expert within an integrated project delivery team. The ideal candidate will bring advanced structural engineering expertise, strong leadership and communication skills, and a commitment to excellence in infrastructure development.
This position offers a hybrid work arrangement and requires co-location at our client's office in downtown Toronto at least 2-3 days per week. This position is for a newly created position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a technical advisor and senior resource for bridge design and analysis, ensuring compliance with Canadian and international design standards.
- Work with multidisciplinary teams in the design, assessment, and rehabilitation of major heavy rail and transit structures.
- Provide specialized technical input on structural materials, construction methods, and engineering best practices.
- Providing arm’s length quality assurance, ensuring the compliance of design calculations, drawings, and technical reports with standards and specifications.
- Develop innovative and cost-effective engineering solutions, optimizing structural performance and longevity.
- Prepare and review technical specifications, feasibility studies, and construction cost estimates.
- Collaborate with clients, contractors, government agencies, and internal teams during project execution.
- Contribute to the development of engineering budgets, project schedules, and resource planning to meet delivery milestones.
- Provide mentorship and support junior engineers in a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Minimum 8+ years of experience in bridge and transportation structure design.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Extensive experience leading rail bridge design projects within and adjacent to live rail corridors.
- Proficiency in advanced structural analysis and design software (e.g., MIDAS, CSI Bridge, SAP
2000). - Strong knowledge of AREMA and Canadian bridge design codes and standards.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, with experience supervising engineers and designers.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
- Proven ability to coordinate with contractors, government agencies, and interdisciplinary teams for seamless project execution.
