Java Backend Developer – Scalable Systems & API Development

At CGI, we are seeking a Senior Java Backend Developers (7+ years) to join our Financial Services Technology team, where you will lead the design and development of scalable, high-performance backend systems supporting mission-critical financial operations. In this role, you’ll architect and optimize platforms that power transaction processing, data services, and fund operations within a dynamic, agile environment. This is a permanent full-time position, working five days onsite at our Halifax, NS;
Moncton, NB or Stratford, PEI locations.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

• Design and develop multi-layered backend systems using Java, Spring Boot, and PL/SQL.

• Build RESTful APIs and microservices with a strong focus on scalability, performance, and maintainability.

• Optimize database schemas, stored procedures, and transactional SQL in Oracle or DB2.

• Drive CI/CD automation using Jenkins, Git, and uDeploy.

• Collaborate with Dev Ops teams to enhance monitoring, resiliency, and release automation pipelines.

• Lead code reviews, unit testing, and integration testing to ensure high-quality, reliable delivery.

• Troubleshoot and resolve cross-technology challenges while contributing to continuous process improvement initiatives.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

• 7+ years of backend programming experience with Java, Spring, and Spring Boot.

• Proven expertise in API design, microservices architecture, and enterprise-scale system development.

• Strong database engineering skills including Oracle or DB2, PL/SQL, and transactional SQL.

• Hands-on experience with Git branching strategies, Jenkins, Sonar, and deployment automation tools.

• Familiarity with Dev Ops platforms such as HP Operations Orchestration, Service Now, and HP Service Manager.

• Agile mindset with a focus on collaboration, quality, and iterative delivery.

• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.

• Exposure to alternative investment products such as derivatives, liquid alts, or private equity.
