As a Sr. Systems Engineering Network & Computer System specialist you will be expected to have expert level knowledge and expertise in all areas of large scale "Systems of Systems" inter‑networking development and deployment. You will be working within the Systems Engineering group and the focus of the work is the specification of requirements for development teams to implement and review of their designs and implementations.

The network is a global deployment of a multitude of satellites, various earth terminals, POPs, hubs, gateways and backbone trunks. A good knowledge of Security protocols and their implementation is essential. You will be working with system architects, RF engineers, antenna engineers, Earth Station engineers, to partition functions between hardware and software domains performing system level interface trade‑offs to maximize performance.

You will have experience working in a Systems Engineering environment and are familiar with the use of Systems Engineering products to facilitate the orderly progression from requirements through design, implementation, verification and deployment. You should be familiar with computer systems design and design methodologies in an Agile development environment.

Responsibilities

Specific duties of the role will include reviewing subsystem designs to ensure compliance with system level specifications, interface documentation, performing network level simulations regarding capacity, latency, etc. At times you will be required to propose changes to requirements specifications to refine the overall system performance. You will be required to make assessments regarding the development and deployment plans. At times you will have to participate in the development and refinement of interface documentation at Level 3 and higher.

An understanding of Layer 2 protocols would be an asset.

You will derive and maintain top level specifications for use by subsystems and respond to requests to modify the requirements as necessary. As well you will create and review test procedures and plans as well as test results to ensure compliance with the specifications.

Characterize and analyze system performance. Develop and maintain performance budgets on specific aspects of the system.

Provide technical support to regulatory, coordination, and market access teams and provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and those with less domain specific knowledge. You will on occasion be expected to prepare and deliver presentations to the Telesat technical community.

Education and Experience Required

Bachelor’s degree or higher in electrical or computer engineering or related discipline with emphasis on some combination of computer engineering and network engineering.
