We are seeking an enthusiastic lawyer with analytical, advocacy, organizational and interpersonal skills to join a collegial team of talented professionals. The Legal Counsel, Labour and Employment will provide strategic direction and ensure the provision of legal services in a cost‑effective and timely manner while protecting the Corporation from legal action and ensuring business practices meet statutory and regulatory requirements.

Job Responsibilities

Conduct research, prepare legal opinions and provide advice to management on labour and employment law, including the interpretation of collective agreements and statutes.

Provide practical and strategic advice to management on a wide variety of labour and employment issues, offer support in problem resolution and decision‑making.

Keep abreast of changes to legislative and jurisprudential frameworks, recommend best practices in labour and employment law to the Corporation.

Draft, review and revise agreements, contracts, policies and other legal documents to ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.

Represent management in labour arbitration hearings and other proceedings, and manage external counsel.

Qualifications

Law degree from a recognized institution and membership in good standing with a provincial bar.

3–7 years of post‑call experience practicing labour and employment law and litigation.

Excellent communication and leadership skills, able to work with minimal supervision.

Motivation, proactivity, and the aptitude to fulfill responsibilities upon appointment to the role.

Position Occupancy
