Job summary
There are two full‑time Deputy Senior Nurse posts available (one to cover Cynon, one to cover Rhondda). The post holder will have responsibility for leading and managing a Health Visiting team, delivering on the Healthy Child Wales Programme and supporting the senior management team to advance the quality agenda.
Responsibilities- Provide strong visible leadership within Health Visiting.
- Support the senior management team in taking forward the quality agenda, in relation to Health Visiting and the public health agenda.
- Support the Senior Nurse Health Visiting in delivering on the Health Visiting strategic priorities and incorporating activity across the public sector and the Third Sector.
- Line‑manage a skill‑mix team of Health Visitors, providing support and supervision as required.
- Provide expert clinical advice and support as per the Healthy Child Wales Programme (HCWP).
- Take forward Health Visiting service initiatives and programmes of work, ensuring effective governance.
- Support the inequality and early intervention agenda.
- Progress the research and development agenda within the profession.
- Work autonomously within Health Board policies and procedures.
- Collaborate closely with Senior Nurses, Head of Nursing and Deputy Head of Nursing to deliver on specific priorities.

- Assist the Senior Nurse to ensure the delivery of strategic objectives and performance targets for Health Visiting, including HCWP and associated activity.
- Provide Health Visitors with expert clinical advice and case‑by‑case supervision as required.
- Support Health Visitors in caseload management, family engagement and clinical audit to ensure compliance with HCWP pathways and protocols.
- Interpret and critically analyse local and national policies, frameworks and guidance, making recommendations for new or amended practice.
- Develop specific programmes of work to address health inequalities aligned with local health needs.
- Implement strategies, policies and procedures with the Senior Nurse, ensuring robust governance around the models.
- Visitor Health Registrar.
- Postgraduate diploma level or equivalent and relevant experience, skills and knowledge.
- Welsh language skills (Level 3 and above/B2).
- Experience of working at a senior level either within operational management, strategic or practice service development role or significant relevant clinical experience with transferable skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
