Job Summary
There are two full-time Deputy Senior Nurse posts available (37.5 hours per week). One post covers Cynon and the other covers Rhondda.
The post holder will have responsibility for the following:
- Provide strong visible leadership within Health Visiting.
- Support the senior management team in advancing the quality agenda for Health Visiting and public health.
- Support the Senior Nurse, Health Visiting in delivering on strategic priorities that span the public sector and the Third Sector.
- Line‑manage a skill‑mix team of Health Visitors, providing support and supervision as required.
- Provide expert clinical advice and support as per the Healthy Child Wales Programme (HCWP).
- Collaborate with the Senior Nurse to take forward Health Visiting service initiatives and programme work, ensuring effective governance underpins them.
- Support the inequality and early intervention agenda.
- Progress the research and development agenda within the profession in partnership with the Senior Nurse.
- Work autonomously within Health Board policies and procedures.
- Work closely with Senior Nurses, the Head of Nursing and the Deputy Head of Nursing to deliver specific priorities.

- Assist the Senior Nurse in providing professional leadership within the profession.
- Ensure delivery of strategic objectives and performance targets for all aspects of the Health Visiting business, e.g. the HCWP WG 2015 scheme.
- Offer Health Visitors expert clinical advice and support in caseload management and individual supervision.
- Support Health Visitors in managing caseloads, conducting family engagement and reviews as required.
- Develop and implement clinical audits to ensure compliance with HCWP pathways and protocols.
- Interpret and critically analyse local and national policies, frameworks and guidance, and make recommendations for new or amended practice.
- Develop specific programmes of work to address health inequalities aligned with local health needs.
- Implement strategies, policies and procedures for programme work, ensuring robust governance around the models.

- Visitor Health Registrar qualification.
- Postgraduate diploma level study or equivalent.
- Relevant experience, skills and knowledge.
- Welsh Language Skills (Level 3 and above/B2).
- Senior‑level experience in operational management, strategic or practice service development, or significant relevant clinical experience with transferable skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
