Job purpose

  • Provide geophysics domain support towards integrated geo-science assessment and evaluation focused on appraisal and development of hydrocarbon resources, volumetric estimation, and geological risk analysis of geophysical data interpretations (2D/3D seismic, borehole seismic/VSP, gravity, magnetic, EM).

The position will act in accordance with the Group’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as policies, guidelines and standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Omani government and other legal justifications.

Main tasks and responsibilities
  • Interpret geophysical data to support reservoir level integrated geoscientific evaluations for petroleum appraisal and development.
  • Conduct 2D/3D seismic mapping, well seismic calibration, time-to-depth conversion, seismic attributes analysis and maintain the geophysical database.
  • Support paleo-ural analysis and seismic facies analysis for depositional environments.
  • Conduct hydrocarbon volumetric assessment (probabilistic/deterministic) and geological risk analysis of hydrocarbon appraisal and development targets.
  • Recommend new geophysical data API programs to de-risk appraisal and development targets and support value of information analysis.
  • Support planning, acquisition, processing and interpretation of seismic and other geophysical data and conduct processing QA/QC of seismic and other geophysical data.
  • Prepare robust geophysical maps, cross-sectional diagrams and reports.
  • Develop models and apply software for the analysis and interpretation of data.
  • Establish and formulate workflows, best practices and procedures for the geophysical function.
  • Mentor and coach geoscience staff to improve skills and develop self-sufficient performers.
  • Adhere to company occupational health, safety, security and environmental culture and policies.
  • Stand-by/on-call duties when required.

External: MEM, Partners, other E&P companies, consultancy firms, etc.

Notable working conditions

Office environment, intensive computer screen use, sporadic visits to operation sites.

Education requirements
  • BS degree in geology, relevant science subject or equivalent.
  • MSc degree in geophysics, physics, mathematics or engineering (desirable).
Language requirements

Excellent knowledge of written, read and spoken English (required). Arabic – Native (desirable).

Background and experience
  • Minimum of 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Robust experience in geophysical data interpretation workflows and methods for play mapping, prospect generation, evaluation and geological risk analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience proposing appraisal and development programs and drilling that led to optimum resource development.
  • Experience in a variety of geological settings.
  • Exposure to 2D/3D seismic acquisition and processing.
  • QA/QC experience in 2D/3D seismic data processing and reservoir characterization workflows.
  • Geoscience knowledge with experience in both geophysics and geology.
  • Experience with upstream exploration and development activities.
  • Relevant software experience in Landmark, Petrel and ArcGIS preferred.
  • Expert user of G&G interpretation systems.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Track record of deadline delivery and result orientation.
  • Experienced mentor and coach.
