Join Canonical as a Lead Golang Software Engineer in the Commercial Systems unit. Canonical is a leading provider of open‑source software and operating systems, best known for the Ubuntu platform used worldwide in cloud, AI, IoT and enterprise deployments.

Remote – EMEA region.
We are hiring a senior engineer who will drive delivery of high‑quality Golang services, lead technical design, code reviews, and coaching, and contribute to a fast‑paced, distributed team culture.
Commercial Systems OverviewThe Commercial Systems unit comprises six engineering teams that collaborate closely with business stakeholders. Services built by this unit are integral to Canonical’s core operations.
- Billing team – Designs, develops, and operates a scalable service that converts metrics into billable amounts and provides real‑time spend visibility to customers.
- Contracts team – Builds a single source of truth for all customer contracts, delivering CPQ capabilities and integration with CRM and accounting systems.
- Livepatch team – Develops Golang‑based client and backend components for live kernel patch delivery, improving security and reliability.
- Develop engineering solutions leveraging Golang.
- Lead technical designs, code reviews, and implementation.
- Deploy and operate services developed by the team.
- Coach, mentor, and provide career development feedback to colleagues.
- Advocate best engineering and organizational practices.
- Strong academic background; university degree in a technical subject or equivalent experience.
- Proven track record of exceeding expectations and delivering outstanding results.
- Experience developing software in Golang.
- Fluent written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills.
- Result‑oriented and highly motivated to meet commitments.
- Willingness to travel internationally twice a year for company events up to two weeks long.
- Background in performance engineering or security.
- Experience with accounting, sales, or related business systems.
- Distributed work environment with bi‑annual in‑person sprints.
