Role Description
The Department of Mathematics at the University of York is a vibrant community of mathematicians with a wide range of research interests.
Role
The department of Mathematics invites applications for a Research Associate to join the research team working on the EPSRC grant 'Basis Reduction for Structured Lattices With Applications to Post-Quantum Cryptography'.
We are seeking a candidate with expertise in number theory (especially in the field of metric Diophantine approximation and/or algebraic number theory) and, simultaneously, expertise in functional analysis and probability theory.
The ideal candidate will have some postgraduate research experience and published papers in peer-reviewed journals across its fields of expertise. Some experience in teaching also would be a benefit.
The role is fixed-term for up to three years.
Skills, Experience & Qualification Needed
Candidates will have completed, or be close to completing, a PhD in a relevant area of Mathematics. An ideal candidate will have a strong mathematical background and experience in working within at least one of the research areas relevant to the project. In brief candidates will have:
PhD in Mathematics or equivalent degree or experience
Research expertise in fields of Number Theory, Probability and Functional Analysis
Ability to write up research work for publication in high profile journals and engage in public dissemination
Ability to develop research objectives, projects and proposals for own and joint research, with the assistance of a mentor if required
Competence to conduct individual and collaborative research projects
Competence to make presentations at conferences or exhibit work in other appropriate events
