Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join our team. In this role, you will initially assist with and progressively take on full responsibility for a wide range of accounting functions. Working closely with the Controller, this position offers a unique opportunity to develop and expand your skills in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing the full accounting cycle, supporting a variety of financial processes and projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the full accounting cycle for multiple companies, including daily cash and credit card receipt processing, accounts receivable monitoring and collections, expense classification, divisional tracking and job costing, accounts payable management, and preparation and filing of GST and PST returns.
  • Conduct bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Perform cost accounting and budget tracking.
  • Prepare month-end working papers.
  • Prepare ad-hoc management reports and provide analytical support related to operational costs and margins.
  • Support capital and large maintenance projects through detailed financial oversight.
  • Ensure adherence to accounting policies and procedures, and maintain compliance with federal and provincial regulations.
  • Deliver timely weekly and monthly financial reports to senior management.
  • Process and record accounting transactions including accruals, prepaid adjustments and capital asset recording.
  • Manage payroll processing for approximately 45 employees, including statutory holidays calculation, filing source deductions, EHT, WCB returns, administering employee benefit deductions, managing vacation pay, processing expense reimbursements, issuing Records of Employment, supporting onboarding and offboarding processes and responding to employee benefits.
  • Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment.
  • Perform bonding-related tasks.
  • Undertake other duties as required by the business.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Professional CPA designation is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting standards, including ASPE.
  • Proficiency in computerized accounting systems and MS Office. Experience with Quick Books is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to excel in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively and maintain positive working relationships across teams.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the capacity to manage time efficiently and prioritize tasks.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Highly motivated, proactive, and results-driven approach to work.
