Overview
Locum Consultant Respiratory Physician – Lung Cancer (12‑month fixed term, 1 in 8 on‑call rota, including weekends). The role will support the general respiratory and multi‑disciplinary lung‑cancer service at Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne, providing clinic care, ward cover, procedural work (pleural procedures, bronchoscopy), and teaching, audit and research responsibilities. A flexible working pattern will be required, including evening and weekend duties where needed.
Key Responsibilities- Provide clinical cover for the respiratory specialist team, including weekly multidisciplinary lung‑cancer meetings.
- See new and review general respiratory and lung‑cancer patients in clinic and undertaking procedural work (pleural procedures, bronchoscopy, EBUS).
- Support the adult respiratory service via ward cover, on‑call duties and teaching of junior staff.
- Maintain clinical quality and safety, contributing to audit, clinical governance and evidence‑based practice.
- Engage in teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate students, departmental meetings and governance.
- Primary medical qualification, full GMC registration.
- Entry onto GMC Specialist Register within six months of appointment.
- MRCP(UK) or equivalent.
- Higher degree.
- Specialist training and higher Clinical Invasive Pulmonary (CIP) level 4 TUS operator.
- Experience with Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) and involvement in lung‑cancer management.
- Evidence of teaching, audit, research and leadership experience.
- Commitment to professional, managerial and teaching responsibilities.
- Strong communication skills, ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Willingness to work flexible patterns and adapt to service demands.
- Contract:
Fixed term, 12 months. - Working pattern:
Full time, 43‑week year, statutory holidays. - Salary: £109,725 – £145,478 per annum (pro‑rated).
