Principal P&C Design Engineer – Power T&D

Balfour Beatty plc invites applications for the role of Principal P&C Design Engineer to join its Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D) team across the UK.

The main function of the role is to engineer the control and protection designs for electrical substation projects up to 400 kV, and to oversee General, Planning, and Procurement responsibilities for substation delivery.

• Ensure all duties comply with Company Quality, Health & Safety and Environmental procedures.
• Contribute to the development and training of the Design Team.
• Coordinate contract requirements with Project Manager, customer, suppliers and Balfour Beatty departments.
• Establish design content, plan resources, and deliver detailed engineering designs and plans.
• Control, update and report on progress, highlight potential resource issues.
• Specify and quantify equipment and materials, manage variations and procurement documentation.
• Identify and apply relevant technical standards, customer requirements, national and international legislation.
• Prepare risk assessments, design reviews, contract close‑out meetings and liaise with engineers and draughtspersons.
• Approve engineering designs and drawings, and develop installation, commissioning and test specifications.
• Review as‑installed site drawings, coordinate with other departments to ensure accurate final records.

• HNC in Electrical Engineering or higher.

• UK industry experience, preferably National Grid.

• Overall design and specification of electrical power systems and related components.

• Demonstrated ability to perform integrity calculations.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

• Flexible working – up to 40 % remote, staggered start/finish times.
