Our Modelling teams deliver innovative solutions that improve water quality and manage urban pollution, whilst looking for opportunities to improve the applications & processes used by the industry.

Owing to this variety of work and our ongoing growth targets, we now have an opportunity for a Principal Urban Drainage Modeller to join us in Newcastle. Along with an exciting portfolio of work, our team are also at the forefront of developing digital solutions & smart applications, led by industry recognised specialists across the business. You ll become a key member of an interdisciplinary team made up of 175 personnel from Stantec, across 13 UK & Ireland offices and a team in Pune.

This is a great opportunity to join an ambitious and innovative team of engineers, working on a specialist modelling framework whilst contributing to industry leading projects. You will be based from our picturesque Quayside offices in Newcastle, with hybrid working pattern available to help achieve a healthy work-life balance. Within this role, you will lead & deliver complex urban drainage modelling projects, providing technical expertise & guidance.

You will develop and apply advanced hydraulic models to assess and mitigate flood risk, optimise drainage system performance, and support sustainable urban development. You can find out more about our work in the water sector here:

About You

You will be degree qualified (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Geography or other relevant subject, and be a member of an industry relevant institution e.g. ICE, CIWEM. You will have previous experience leading projects in an urban drainage environment and demonstrate technical experience covering a wide range of urban drainage modelling activities. You ll lead staff development, ensuring project delivery excellence through effective planning, coordination, and technical governance.

Therefore, strong communication skills, including report writing and presentations, are essential for building industry relationships. Most importantly, you’ll embody our values and ethos of client focus and service excellence.
