About the role: We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our community of tech experts in DWP Digital. The role will help drive data engineering strategy, mentor a talented team, and build robust pipelines that power cutting‑edge AI and automation solutions. Working with modern tools and collaborating across disciplines, you will deliver high‑impact data solutions that transform real services.
Skills,knowledge and experience required
- Data Engineering Design & Delivery (Practitioner): design and oversee the implementation of complex, enterprise‑scale data processes and ETL pipelines, translating customer requirements into robust, scalable solutions.
- Data Standards & Governance (Expert): deep expertise in establishing and maintaining data engineering standards across teams, ensuring adherence to organisational and community standards for consistency and compliance.
- Problem Solving & Incident Management (Practitioner): lead investigations into complex data issues, including ETL pipeline failures and platform‑level problems, applying solutions that consider strategic, tactical, and operational impacts.
- Leadership & Team Development (Practitioner/Expert): experience leading data engineering teams, mentoring junior engineers, promoting continuous improvement, and fostering a culture of best practice.
As a Senior Data Engineer at The Garage, you will lead and manage data engineering activities, set strategy and standards for the wider community, and provide technical leadership to a team of Data Engineers. You will build and maintain high‑quality ETL pipelines and BI reporting strategies, directly supporting innovative solutions using AI and automation technologies while ensuring resilience, performance, and compliance.
Your collaboration with software engineers, Dev Ops teams, and service managers will deliver robust data solutions. You will also mentor and coach colleagues, helping to grow capability and foster a strong data engineering culture.
Wages, Perks, Location
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne digital hub.
Hybrid Working: hybrid model – some time at home and some time face‑to‑face in the hub.
Pay: up to £73,517 per annum.
