Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Electrification – Newcastle

My client is an established European engineering and technology business specialising in advanced electromechanical solutions for industrial and commercial markets.

They are recruiting a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong background in motors or rotating machinery to lead mechanical design work, support technical decision‑making and collaborate with cross‑functional teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the mechanical design of motor assemblies, rotating equipment and associated subsystems.
  • Produce detailed 3D CAD models, drawings and supporting documentation.
  • Conduct stress, thermal and structural analysis to validate component and system performance.
  • Engage with suppliers on component selection, manufacturability and cost optimisation.
  • Participate in design reviews, offering expert insight into mechanical considerations.
  • Support prototype builds, testing, root‑cause analysis and continuous improvement work.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant mechanical engineering standards and safety requirements.
Required Experience & Skills
  • Proven experience in mechanical design within motors, rotating machinery or similar electromechanical environments.
  • Strong proficiency in CAD tools (Solid Works, Creo, Inventor or equivalent).
  • Excellent understanding of materials, tolerances, manufacturing processes and mechanical analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a methodical engineering approach.
  • Ability to work effectively onsite and collaborate with engineering and production teams.
Preferred Attributes
  • Experience with prototype development and test validation.
  • Familiarity with FEA tools and simulation workflows.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to justify technical decisions clearly.
Senior / Principal Mechanical Design Engineer – MEP Building Services

My client, an international M&E consultancy, seeks an experienced Senior or Principal Mechanical Engineer based in Newcastle to inspire others and run medium‑sized projects in areas such as data centres, commercial and hotel design.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Run medium‑size projects, client‑facing development and coordination of engineering project services for mechanical installations, systems and facilities.
  • Develop and specify controls, instruments and operating systems for all building engineering services.
  • Survey, test and report on existing electrical/mechanical installations.
  • Specify activities to ensure manufacturing, construction, installation and operational testing comply with functional specifications and customer requirements.
  • Make day‑to‑day decisions on project progress and liaise directly with clients.
