Financial Compliance, Tax Manager
Overview
An Indirect Tax Manager role has been created within the Sage Tax Team. The role is a mixture of compliance, advisory and project work reporting to the Indirect Tax Senior Manager and helping manager 2 Senior Analysts. The new Manager role is responsible for working globally across all geographies, working with Senior Analysts to ensure that compliance reviews are carried out and all deadlines are met.
Additionally, the role involves providing advisory support on GST/VAT and US sales tax and working on priority finance projects and indirect projects. The role will have sufficient authority to approve/agree decisions without the need to involve the Senior Manager. This role manages indirect taxes on a global basis, ensuring VAT, GST and sales tax obligations are met accurately and on time across multiple regions.
You'll combine strong technical expertise with a practical, collaborative approach, supporting the business with indirect tax advice while driving improvements in how compliance is delivered.
You'll oversee indirect tax compliance for the EU, UK, US and Canada, reviewing VAT, GST and sales tax returns and preparing a small number yourself. You'll work closely with senior analysts to balance workloads and meet deadlines, while also partnering with external advisors and staying on top of global tax changes. Alongside compliance, you'll respond to indirect tax queries from internal teams, customers and tax authorities, support audits and wider tax and finance projects, and contribute to initiatives such as product tax coding, integrations and M&A.
A key part of the role is improving processes by simplifying, automating and strengthening data quality, while ensuring all work meets internal control and governance standards.
We're looking for someone with at least five years' experience in global VAT compliance, ideally from a Big Four or multinational environment, with a good understanding of US sales tax. You'll be comfortable working independently, managing multiple priorities and collaborating within a high-performing team. Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships in a matrix organisation are essential. An accountancy or tax qualification, or equivalent experience, is expected, with an interest in automation or data tools seen as a plus.
BenefitsWorking at Sage means you're supporting millions of small and medium sized businesses globally with technology to work faster and smarter. We leverage the future of AI, meaning business owners spend less time doing routine tasks, like entering invoices and generating reports, and more time pursuing their ambitions.
