Senior Sister​/Charge Nurse

Job Summary

Senior Sister/Charge Nurse – A leadership role within Older Persons Medicine on Ward 15 at the Freeman Hospital. The position involves improving patient care through effective leadership, management, and education, ensuring consistently high standards of nursing care.

• 24‑hour accountability for the ward, including line management of nursing staff.
• Deliver quality nursing care by ensuring appropriate systems and processes are in place for safe, effective care at all times.
• Deputise for the Matron as required or appropriate.

• Registered Nurse (appropriate to branch).
• Current NMC registration.
• Degree level knowledge or working towards completion (e.g., on pathway).
• Meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) requirements for mentorship if relevant to the role.

• Master’s degree.
• Leadership / management qualification.

• Evidence of achievement in the current post and ongoing professional development.
• Knowledge and understanding of current NHS policy context.
• Experience leading a nursing team at SR/CN level or equivalent.
• Extensive clinical practice or specialist qualification in a relevant specialty.
• Experience of adult / child safeguarding.
• Audit / research experience.
• Specialist course in area of practice.

• Experience developing a nursing team at SR/CN level.

• Professional accountability in a leadership role.
• Good IT skills.
• Intravenous drug administration.

Permanent, Full‑time (37 h 30 min per week – flexible working or job share options available). Salary is £47,810 to £54,710 a year pro rata, band
