An ML Research Engineer is sought to join an innovative AI research team in Surrey, contributing to the development of advanced AI models and algorithms for speech, audio, and generative AI applications. This is a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge research, translating results into real-world impact and helping shape next-generation mobile and audio experiences. This Surrey based role involves hands-on research, software development, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team in a dynamic environment.
Responsibilities include:
Conduct independent research in audio and speech processing, including signal processing, machine learning, and deep learning. Design, develop, and implement algorithms and systems for audio/speech analysis, enhancement, separation, and understanding. Lead development of software prototypes and experimental systems with high-quality, maintainable code. Collect, analyse, and prepare datasets for model training and evaluation. Evaluate algorithms and systems through rigorous experimentation and statistical analysis.
Collaborate with researchers and engineers to integrate research outputs into products and services. Contribute to publications and dissemination of research results in top-tier conferences and journals. Key skills & experience:
PhD in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline. Strong programming skills in Python; experience in C++ is a plus. Solid understanding of machine learning and deep learning, including model architectures, training, and evaluation. Proven research experience in audio/speech processing with publications in top-tier conferences/journals. Proficiency with ML frameworks such as Tensor Flow or PyTorch. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
ability to design and execute rigorous experiments. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Desirable skills:
Experience in audio signal processing (e.G., Filter design, spectral analysis).
Experience with speech recognition, TTS, speech enhancement, or NLP.
Experience with generative AI in audio/speech contexts. Familiarity with version control (Git), software development best practices, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and large-scale distributed data processing.
